Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

We are a faith based, safe space for healing, spiritual growth, and education created so that disadvantaged young adults can gain skills and confidence to overcome the limitations of poverty. Our goal is to get young adults in family settings as they transition out of institutions and into society.

About Us

Our Beliefs

The Maranatha House Antigua believes in opportunities and in hope. We believe in mental, physical and spiritual restoration. We believe in education and its importance. We believe in helping young adults grow into capable individuals who can overcome challenges. We believe in breaking the cycle of poverty. We believe in the healing power of family style care. We believe in God’s heart for the vulnerable. We believe in the future of Guatemala and that the change starts right now.

Our Partners

We work alongside some of the best people and businesses in the Antigua area to offer education, opportunities and internships to our program participants. Here are just a few of them. If you have a business in the area and are interested in offering opportunities to our young adults, please contact us!

The River Coffee House

The River Coffee House was created to provide hope, empowerment, training and discipleship for Guatemalans. We are partnering with them in their discipleship program to get a few of our young men active in a positive work environment and into ministry and outreach opprotunities. They will leave the program knowing how to make a great cup of coffee too.

Caoba Farms

Their signature saying is Eat Well, Feel Good and it couldn’t be more true for the members of our program. A big part in physical, mental and spiritual restoration is learning to care for your body and mind the best you can. An internship at Caoba gives participants the chance to be in nature working on the farm, access to produce as well as a chance for future employment in their farm to table restaurant.

Academy of Future Leaders

This local school offers soccer and English classes during the week and then opens their doors on the weekend for order students to learn life skills and develop career skills. Some of our Maranatha House participants do more than just attend classes; our first member has actually found her life calling by starting out here as an English teacher for kids.

Testimonials

What People Say

“Well, I have learned a lot about life outside since almost all of my life was spent in an orphanage. It has been nice to meet new friends and explore new places. The best has been in my opportunity to be a teacher. I love playing with the kids and learning more with them every day and I am excited and motivated to go to a local University to continue studying to be a great teacher.”

Marlin Lopez, Member of The Maranatha House Antigua

Watching our group of young men come visit and go through meetings and interviews was a beautiful experience. You could see a light in their eyes and a hope for what their futures hold. When a young boy from a tough background is offered an opportunity to intern with a Land Rover Mechanic, you know this could be the chance he needs to change his life and the life of his family. This is the start of his chance to break the cycle of poverty. We know it won’t happen at the snap of a finger but with time, support and the chance for him to grow into a capable and skilled individual, there are no limits!

Our 2024 Goal

Our ministry has changed over the last few years. Rather than housing young adults together in an institutional setting, we are moving to family style care. This isn’t easy but it will be sustainable, impactful and truly what our young adults need. We are looking for families interested in being part of our ministry who have a heart to share their home with a young adult as they transition out of orphan care and into society.

Our 2024 goal is to find 1 family.

It might not sound like a lot but it is an important beginning. We know that family heals and that each child deserves this.
